Comparison of the Microbiological Efficacy and Practical Application of Three Alternative Types of Low-Temperature Sterilisation Processes Based on Hydrogen Peroxide
Abstract
In the field of low-temperature sterilisation, processes based on hydrogen peroxide have gained widespread recognition. Faced with the need to make new investments in this domain, various types of sterilisation equipment was compared based on microbiological, technical and economic feasibility criteria. It was revealed that the equipment tested reliably met the requirements addressed to sterilisation processes, while offering a considerable safety margin. However, economic feasibility and the compatibility of the process with the supplies to be sterilised are also important considerations.

Decreased Number of Repairs of Rigid Scopes as a Result of Low-Temperature Sterilization with H2O2 Gas Plasma
Abstract
Since September 2007, rigid scopes from the urology and orthopaedics departments at the Barmherzige Brüder Hospital in Trier, Germany, are no longer autoclaved together with other surgical trays, but are sterilized separately in an H2O2 gas plasma sterilizer (STERRAD 100S). The incidence of rigid scope repairs was analyzed two years before and one year after this changeover. Since the introduction of H2O2 gas plasma sterilization, a significant reduction of repairs was achieved in both departments.
