Subject: CSS Management.

I ever read about this issue - Nurses are not suitable to be CSSD Manager. Can anyone refresh me back about this issue on what's the rational and who is more suitable to hold this post. Thanks.

My opinion would be that there is not a right or wrong background to have come from to manage an SSD department - just being the most suitable applicant at the time of appointment/vacancy.

Someone from a nursing background would undoubtedly have the correct knowledge from a clinical point of view if they had been a surgical/theatre nurse but there are so many other options of experience ie someone working up through the SSD department would have good knowledge of the department, staff and training issues and there are other areas where a succesful manager could come from ie engineering background.
