Dear sir,

if a patient is HBsAg+ve and if i want to wash his clothes and linens than which detergent should i use?
please reply me immediately, it's urgent

Dear,

In formal days, in our hospital, the linen and clothes of an isolated patient were transported to the laundry in a plastic bag, washed separately and then added to the dirty hospital linen to undergo the routine treatment.

At the occasion of the introduction of the "Standard Precautions", we adopted the following policy:

  • Linen (and clothes) from all patients undergo the normal laundry procedure,
  • Only heavily soiled linen is transported in a special plastic bag to the laundry to prevent leakage and to protect the handling personnel. There it undergoes the normal procedure.
  • Gloves and other protective apparel should be worn by laundry personnel while sorting soiled linen.

This should be sufficient because the risk of actual disease transmission from soiled linen is negligible (CDC guidelines).
