I live in Ballarat Australia and currently working at the Ballarat Base Hospital can you tell me which course is better for furthering my knowledge on steralisation the mayfield course or the oten course.

Congratulations on your commitment to continuing education! You should be commended on your commitment to our profession. The International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) offers a good series of certification classes for sterilization technicians and supervisors. These may be taken as correspondence classes in addition to being offered in formal educational settings. They also offer a variety of continuing education programs to help sterilization personnel keep current on topics relating to the Sterilization department.

Find out more at their website www.iahcsmm.com. These are only one of several programs available, but a program I think highly of. I should mention, so as to avoid possible perceptions of conflict of interest, I am a member of IAHCSMM and a certified educator for these IAHCSMM classes.
