CHICAGO - The American Society for Healthcare Central Service Professionals (ASHCSP) announced this week that National Healthcare Central Service and Sterile Processing Week will be celebrated Oct. 13-19, 2002. The theme of this year's celebration, "A Vital Role in Patient Safety," emphasizes the crucial part central service/sterile processing (CS/SP) professionals play in healthcare delivery.

October 13-19 marks a time of recognition for the CS/SP profession. The week is designated to recognize staff members within the department, as well as to promote the central service and sterile processing profession within the healthcare industry and raise awareness of the essential part CS/SP professionals play in patient safety.

CS/SP Week provides an opportunity for hospitals and healthcare workers to reward CS/SP professionals for their achievements. Hospitals, care centers and CS/SP department staff members can purchase T-shirts, tote bags, key chains, and more, with this year's theme printed on them.
