Subject: Sterile/dirty instrument/set transportation

Is it ok to collect dirty inst./sets and send sterile inst./sets which is put together in ONE transportation cart (i.e sterile items on top shelf and the dirty items on the lower shelf? Please advise me. Thanks.

Dear Ronaldo
As a rule sterile supply is to be transported under the same conditions, as it is stored. That is, sterile supply should not be transported on the same cart as contaminated items. In order to keep clean/sterile items separate from contaminated items distribute first the sterile supply, then the soiled material can be returned to the decontamination area in the same cart. Carts must be cleaned prior to reuse for sterile supply delivery.
